Lots of people try weight loss programs. But often the weight loss program won’t last. Either they work for a period of time and then the desire to maintain the program drops off or you maintain the program.
Weight loss programs are great if you want a meal plan and they can work very well.
The problem is that you also need a mind plan as well as a meal plan.
The reason why is this.
Neuroscience has found that in times of stress or when a stressful situation is encountered the mind defaults to the repeated pattern of behavior that you have done in the past. It’s seems to be a strong evolutionary adaptation where cognitive load is minimized in stressful situations.
This explains the behavior of a lot of people who are trying to lose weight. They will do just fine in terms of weight loss right up until they get really stressed and then they are reaching for the tub of ice cream in the fridge so they can destress for a moment.
This is why it’s important to have a mind plan as well as a meal plan. when you are working on your weight loss journey you need to have as a matter of habit, new ways of responding to stress in the future, so when bad stuff happens in the future.
For any change program to be effective, the desired response that you want to have needs to be rehearsed and deeply programmed into your mind.
Only when the desired response you want, as in, getting focussed on generating solutions you need, as opposed to reaching for the tub of ice cream, only when the desired response is rehearsed does it become what you do when stress happens.
This is when your weight loss program combined with your mind plan can get permanent weight loss.
