What Is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind which we all experience on a daily basis, such as when driving a car and ???zoning out???, watching TV and drifting off, or daydreaming throughout our day as we lose focus on whatever our mind was previously occupied by. At night when we first fall asleep we enter an altered state of awareness half awake and half asleep relaxed and comfortable, safe and secure, aware but not bothered, by our surroundings. This is something most people can relate to and is the easiest way to describe the feeling of hypnosis. Hypnosis is used in many forms of modern day advertising to attract you to certain ideas or products and often by public speakers and politicians to captivate their audiences.

What Is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic application of suggestions via hypnosis or a hypnotic state, in order to bring about change. When in state of hypnosis the body and conscious mind are relaxed and the unconscious mind remains alert and receptive to suggestions. Appropriately made hypnotic suggestions can bypass the intellectual or conscious mind, go directly to the unconscious and assist us in making fast and lasting changes. Hypnotherapy is quick and efficient way to rebuild new behaviours, patterns and ways of thinking in order to change how we think and feel about ourselves. This is particularly useful when wanting find new ways of dealing with situations of stress or worry, or when wanting to make a positive change in life such as quitting smoking, kicking a food or drug addiction, or moving on from a difficult or traumatic experience, regardless of how long ago it was.

What is NLP (Neuro-linguistic Programming)?

NLP is in a sense the language of your mind ??? breaking down how we think, process and store information, how we communicate and put together patterns or behaviour and emotions. NLP often focus on moving towards a desired outcome, helping us to get very clear on what is that we want and creating conditions that support a more favourable achievement of that goal, so has many complementary applications in therapy alongside hypnosis.
It is useful for your therapist to have a varied understanding of how to support you to make the changes you seek using both hypnotherapy, psychotherapy and with additional tools such as NLP.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, or ???talking oriented therapy??? is a way to help clients resolve problems by teaching them strategies tools to deal with stress and unhealthy thoughts and behaviours. Psychotherapy can helps people manage symptoms better so they can function at their best in everyday life. Ericksonian Psychotherapy is the application of the above conscious therapy in conjunction with utilising the unconscious mind via hypnotherapy in order to achieve wholistic and lasting changes.

Will I remember anything?

You will probably remember most things, although this varies from person to person, and depending on how quickly and easily you go into hypnosis. The good news is you don???t need to remember much about the therapy part of a session in order to achieve the outcome you want, as these changes are taking place at an unconscious level. Your only job is to talk with your therapist about what you want and how you are feeling, so they can guide you to making the changes you seek more effectively.
